Golf Course Update from your GCS
Hello to everyone at Laurel Ridge. I am excited to give a quick overview of work already completed this winter on the course and upcoming plans.
Hello to everyone at Laurel Ridge. I am excited to give a quick overview of work already completed this winter on the course and upcoming plans.  No doubt, golfers have seen the many trees taken down around the property.  These trees were selected to reclaim some of the overgrown areas. Along with trees, underbrush has been cleared to help not only the visual aspect for play, but playability as well.  Tree removal will continue next winter to “open” areas for better turf growth and playability.

Moving forward, many spring projects will kick start and crews will begin putting fresh mulch in areas starting next week.  Collars will be aerified and verticut, along with some turf repair in certain collar areas.  Tees have already been aerified, verticut, amendments added and top dressed to get a jump on the coming growing season.  Our greens are slated to be aerified in March as usual. The fairways were limed recently to put our soil ph back to optimal and to maintain proper levels of needed turf nutrients. This is the first application of lime in a very long time and I am anxious to see results.  Fertilizer spreads are also scheduled in April and May.  A dryer spring would be beneficial to drive roots deeper and help alleviate summer turf burn.

A new piece of equipment has been ordered to aerify fairways, but it will arrive later this year.  Fairways will be aerified again in the fall.  Several tee areas are in need of repair and will be stripped and resodded the week of spring aerification.  These tees should be ready for play by the middle of May, just in time for the Pro AM.
* #3 Blue and White
* #5 White and Green
* #11 White
* #12 Green
* #14 Gold and possibly Green
* #17 Gold and Green adding on to the right hand side

Additionally, irrigation is slated to be primed up the week of March 6th.  We will be edging bunkers and adding sand to those that need it.  Hole #14 will be roped off with no carts allowed in the fairway until further notice. This fairway continuously stays wet and cart traffic is detrimental to the turf under those conditions. Please obey ALL cart signs & rules that will be placed in these areas to maintain the integrity of the turf.

This will be a great season and hopefully members will see and appreciate the considerable efforts to beautify and improve the golf course.  Have a wonderful spring and make this a great year here at Laurel Ridge. Stay healthy and safe and TEE IT UP!

As always, any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to email me.  Thank you to all,
Steve Akers, LRCC GCS
