The Hideaway was perfect!
The Hideaway was perfect for our annual sibling mountain trip. We have been getting together for the last 5 years in Western NC or Northeast GA mountains. This home was perfect and by far the most enjoyable. The outdoor pavilion was awesome with fireplace, music via Bluetooth, and incredible mountain scenery. The house was incredibly furnished and decorated. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything you need. And the bedrooms were very comfortable. Sharon, the property manager was amazing to work with. She responded promptly to any questions or needs. We will be returning again next year if all goes well. Thanks for a memorable time! ~ Susan Smith, 10/21/19
Breathtaking & exquisite mountain views
Words cannot describe how perfect this property was during our stay in Waynesville for our daughters wedding. Incredible space for twelve guests. Beds were extremely comfortable, excess of linens provided, kitchen filled with all necessary supplies, gathering rooms on each floor, excellent hot tub and sauna, great outdoor pavilion for entertaining. The most breathtaking and exquisite mountainous views we have ever witnessed. ~Betty Bowes, 10/14/19

GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT'S SPRING 2019 COURSE UPDATE
Hello to all and welcome to spring! I just wanted to give a quick update on course conditions and where we are heading and where we have come from. First, I hope everyone is enjoying these nice temperatures and weather that we have had over the last couple of weeks. Unfortunately, we all know that these prime temps won’t last and we will be into hot weather before long. As for the golf course: Aerification went well this spring with a modified version of it taking place. No doubt, everyone is aware how quick the greens healed up this spring. This was done because of several factors. One being the weather we had endured. Two because of labor and three was time. This fall, we will revert back to pulling a core so that turf health does not decline. You will notice more topdressing this summer along with needle tine holes to keep the greens vented during the hot months. Pre-emerge has been applied to the entire golf course along with fertilizer in hopes of controlling weeds. Many of you have probably noticed that poa annua (annual bluegrass) has emerged in places. We will be trying to control what we can of that but the main focus will be on the putting surface. Seed head suppression is about all we can do at this time. We have gained a wet weather spring on #9. As many of you have noticed, it is extremely wet on the lower right side. My plan is to add some drain lines to move some of that top water away from the area and over to the creek in hopes of drying the area. Look for that to start in the coming weeks. Mowing heights have been established for the fairways. The height of cut will remain at .600 for the foreseeable future do in large part to the amount of rain we have had this year so far. We still have a shallow root system and fairways will be apt to burn up with lower mowing heights. Green heights are at .140 and will be going down to .135 soon. This along with topdressing will produce a faster smoother surface. Rainfall totals for the year so far is 32.29 inches. That is what we have collected at the shop since January 2019. Hopefully we won’t encounter another summer like last year with the rainfall we had. The driving range tee has been reseeded. The maintenance staff labor force has taken a hit this year. Many have probably noticed that we did not get any migrant workers due to the H2B visa cut backs. We are still looking for laborers to fill the vacant spots. However, the staff that is here is putting in a valiant effort to ensure the course is in the best playable shape it can be. Believe me, I do see everything that needs to be done and where we are lacking. Be assured, we are trying to get everything to a maintainable level by prioritizing job tasks for the golf course. Thank you to all for adhering to the no cart/ cart <> signs. This is just to ensure that we don’t wear out the turf in areas especially close to the greens. Please be mindful of any signage and or roped areas.

2019 MEN'S MEMBER-GUEST RECAP
We definitely had the key factors in place this year to pull off a successful Men’s Member-Guest. The golf course was in excellent condition, the weather could not be beat and we hosted the largest field we have seen in over 10 years. With a big Thank You to Matthew Johnson, our Tournament Chairman, the organization including handicaps, flights, pairings, tee gifts and social activities were all in place and anticipation was high for Thursday’s practice round. Tournament action began with seven flights, each with six teams, vying to win their flight to get into the Shoot-Out on Saturday afternoon. In this final showdown, flight winners plus one additional point-winning team, battle for the chance to be crowned MMG Champions. Before that could happen, Friday night’s social activities went off with a BANG!! All MMG participants were given one shot at winning a new automobile with a hole in one on #10. We truly appreciate the sponsorship of this event by The Field Motor Company. Unfortunately, we did not have a winner, but the excitement was palpable. Members and guests were also able to win prizes at other fun contests. The Island Green was hotly contested as the following players hit the green: Mike Gaddis, Bob Holquist, Gorham Bradley, Ozzie Bradshaw, Garrett Greene, Jon Henson and Mel Gondron. The eventual winner was Mel Gondron; Jon Henson finished as Runner-Up, also taking home a cash prize. The putting challenge winners were Sam Garvin and Kim Gaddis, each winning an embroidered headcover for their skills. The Longest Drive contest was thrilling, finishing in a close race. With a great shot of 221 yards, Kate Gifford took home the ladies’ prize and our men’s winner, Chase Kress, pounded one 342 yards to beat Kate’s brother, Luke, whose shot rested at 322 yards. The Senior division was won by Phil Casso (283) and Mike Gaddis (281). Qualifying for the Shoot-out were the following Flight Winners: Richard Gerber/Don Stephenson (1st Flight); Shane Treadway/Bill Ray (2nd Flight); Don Thompson/Mel Gondron (3rd Flight); Bob May/Kenny Miller (4th Flight); Gary Lance/Ozzie Bradshaw (5th Flight); Bob Buckner/Jeff Fuchs (6th Flight); John Ammons/Brad Brookshire (7th Flight); and the wildcard team, Jerry McCarthy/Eric Gifford. The eight teams split in two waves with four teams teeing off on #9 and four on #18. After eliminating one team from each group, the wave swapped holes and one more team was eliminated, leaving four teams to play down #18 for the title. Playing before a large crowd of cheering spectators, the teams of McCarthy/Gifford, Gerber/Stephenson, Treadway/Ray and Lance/Bradshaw composed themselves for the final hole. The playoff was won by a made 8-foot, downhill putt from the team of Shane Treadway and Bill Ray. A BIG congrats to our winners, Shane and Bill, and thanks to all our competitors.

2019 LADIES' CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP: ASHLEY KRESS WINS HER FIRST!
With the defending champion and 13-time club champion Donna Stamey and 3-time champion Deborah Beasley hot on her heels, Ashley Kress shot an unbelievable 5-under par (31) on the back nine Sunday to claim the title of Ladies' Club Champion. With only one stroke between the top competitors after Saturday's first round, all our ladies came to play on Sunday. The front nine ended in a literal draw between the 3 players, so the last nine holes were set to determine the winner. Without a bogey and having 3 birdies and an eagle on the back nine, Ashley pulled away from her competitors by a comfortable margin, giving her the title of Club Champion and the coveted parking spot that accompanies the title for the coming year. Donna Stamey, took home the trophy for Runner-Up Club Champion. With her excellent play, Deborah Beasley was awarded Ladies' Senior Club Champion. Also in the Senior Divison, Kathleen Korber was crowned Runner-Up. Overall Net Champion was Nicki Slusser. A special thank you to all our competitors and Congratulations to our new Club Champion, Ashley Kress!

Exceptional, Job well done!
I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for a job well done! Our son’s rehearsal dinner and wedding reception could not have been carried out any more flawlessly! The staff’s attention to detail and professionalism was noted upon several occasions. Each and every encounter with a Laurel Ridge employee was a pleasant experience. -Mother of the Groom, Sept. 2019 From the beginning planning stages to the day of set up and then the execution of the event, I was continuously impressed. Management, coordinators, servers, ALL were exceptional and for that I am thankful. What a Great Mountain Golf Experience!
What a great mountain golf experience! Every member of the staff from bag boys to pool attendants went out of their way to accommodate us! One of the friendliest clubs I’ve every visited. The rooms were great and so convenient to practice putting green which we took advantage of until dark! Shell was so helpful with dinner suggestions and every thing else! We will definitely return and have suggested it to several golfing friends for the near future! Great value and very nice course in great condition!~ Priscilla Curtis, 7/17/17

Golf Course Superintendent’s Update 5/25/18
There are many projects happening around LRCC. We continue to finish our mulch and pine needle applications. This has been especially tough this year due to our work crews being delayed three weeks and the abundant rainfall. We are working on each area when a free moment and Mother Nature allow. With the abundant rain, clumping of the grass clippings has been a problem.
