Golf Course Superintendent’s Update 9/8/17

Aerifying Hole #5 at LRCC

What a week!  Aerification is always a challenging time for members and staff, but a welcome relief for the stressed turf from a busy summer.  We started aerification on Tuesday and made great progress.  The rain late Tuesday and into Wednesday really slowed things.  Damp sand and a wet golf course keeps things interesting.  We pushed through and should be complete on schedule this afternoon.  Some small tasks await us on Tuesday morning that can be performed without inconveniencing our golfers.  The golf course will take 10-14 days to heal completely and return to normal mowing heights.

I sincerely thank you for your patience during the closure.  We will be spraying our grassy weed called Green Kyllinga next week along with fertilizing the course.  The tees and fairways will appear off color for about a week until the brown leaf is mowed off.  We will also be doing some storm preparation anticipating the hurricane set to arrive Monday evening.

Have a wonderful weekend and please stay safe next week.
