Talk Derby To Me

The 2016 Derby Horse Race included 10 teams running for the roses led by defending champions, Ron Cramm and Dawn Plifka.  R.Cramm & D.Plifka DerbyHorseRace Winners 5-7-'16 LR-1672 REDUCEAfter teeing off on #10, eight of the ten horses struggled right out of the gate, with Dawn Plifka being the only golfer to have her tee shot land and stay on the green!  From there only two teams immediately qualified to progress to the next hole:  Dawn Plifka and Ron Cramm putting up a solid par; and Howard Gottlieb draining a 20+ foot putt for par to carry himself and his partner Kathleen Korber into the next hole.  The majority of the field remained to compete in a 7-way chip off for five available spots.  After eliminating three total teams, all the horses rounded the corner into turn two and teed off on #18.  Scott Hickle hit his teams’ approach shot to about three feet leaving his partner Veronica Von Zwehl a sweet birdie putt which she had no problems dropping into the hole.  Then after being left short on the steep bank in the rough of #18 green, Dawn Plifka stepped up once again and hit a remarkable flop shot that hit the flagstick and settled about 6-8 inches, leaving her partner Ron Cramm with an easy par putt.  After missing the green on their approach shot, Deborah Beasley and Dave Matthys made a solid par to advance themselves as well.  This left two teams tied for a chip off for one more available spot for the final hole. It was a photo finish with Ron Petty and Kaison Gottlieb out-chipping their opponents to move on.

The remaining four teams went back to play #18 once again.  Ron Cramm hit a beautiful approach shot to leave Dawn Plifka with a 9-12 foot putt.  Cool under pressure, she drained the slight bender putt making yet another birdie for their team, securing the Overall Champs of the Derby Shootout…again!  There was a tie breaker for 2nd and 3rd place showings between the team of Scott Hickle and Veronica Von Zwehl  vs. Ron Petty and Kaison Gottlieb.  Scott Hickle stepped up again with another beauty of an approach shot to about two feet leaving a worry-free putt for Veronica to snag the second place title.R.Petty,L.James,D.Plifka&A.Rawley DerbyScrambleTeam Winne 5-7-'16 LR-1662 REDUCE  It was an exciting finish to the Shoot-out and the gallery went wild.
