Golf Course Superintendent’s Update 10/6/17

I hope everyone had a wonderful week.  Our weather has been extremely dry lately, however, rain is forecasted starting Saturday night.  We have some grass seed around the course that would appreciate the additional moisture.  With the annual Piedmont Cup currently going on, I want to say thank you for obeying the signage around the course.  Signs/rope/stakes are added to keep the conditions balanced throughout the property.  The green kyllinga is yellowing out around the golf course.  The frost on Monday hurt the kyllinga enough to yellow before it turns brown.  We will continue spraying this grassy weed throughout next week.  Also, we plan on doing some fairway aerification next week, weather permitting.  We will be pulling a large core similar to greens aerification, dragging the material in, then blowing the excess off.  No sand will be added and conditions should be very playable.  We will be closing 1-2 holes at a time to keep the process moving.

This following tasks were performed this week:

  • Mowed greens 6 times
  • Mowed T,C,A 3 times
  • Mowed fairways 3 times
  • Mowed rough twice
  • Mowed DR twice
  • Mowed clubhouse
  • Changed pins 4 times
  • Weedeated bunkers
  • Raked bunkers
  • Slit seeded #14 fertilizer damage and added straw matting temporarily
  • Weedeated waterways
