Club Operations Update 12/8/15

Happy Holidays from the owners and staff at Laurel Ridge! We are blessed to have members that care so deeply about the future of their club and we thank you for being a part of our family. On that note, the staff wishes to truly thank everyone for the donations received to date for the Employee Holiday Fund! Your generosity is very much appreciated and further proves that the caring spirit shared during the holidays and year-round is alive and well at Laurel Ridge. A member said it best, ” Laurel Ridge is a place where warm friendships are easily made; amenities are plentiful… a wonderful place to be.” Donations to the Employee Holiday Fund will be accepted in the office through Friday, December 11 for anyone wishing to participate.

We want to extend a hearty Laurel Ridge welcome to the following new members:
• Dennis & CheraLyn Kendel, Waynesville, NC
• Keith & Marie Kosmin, Tomball, TX
• Scott & Kim Merritt, Sarasota, FL
• Allan Zacher, Lake Junaluska, NC

Even though we have experienced heavy rainfall lately and overnight temperatures have regularly dropped to freezing, Scott and crew have still been able to prepare our clay courts for play daily. As long as possible, we will keep the courts open for our members. Stay tuned to your email for updates. If you need a hitting partner or fourth for doubles, call Scott at 452-0545, ext. 132 or email

The pickleball courts are lined and will be available all winter long in the covered Pavilion, with the exception of Saturday, December 12. So come rain or shine or sn*w, you can still play and work on your game before next season begins. We have pickleball equipment available for rent; call the office for pick-up.

Tags are still available on our Angel Tree located in the Pro Shop. Each Haywood Christian Ministry tag has the name, age and wishes of a local child that is hoping for your help to make their Christmas morning a little brighter. If possible, stop by and take a tag (or two) to shop for while you are shopping for your list! The unwrapped, tagged gifts are due back by December 12.

On December 15, statements will be mailed with dues and other charges for 2016 along with any member charges since your last statement. These “interim” bills are sent as a convenience for those members that wish to pay their balance before the end of 2015. The same charges will be sent on January 2, 2016, including additional charges incurred in December with the balance due on or before January 15, 2016.

Club Member Tammy Wilmot has accomplished what very few golfers have. She was inducted into the Florida State Golf Association’s prestigious Hall of Fame in November 2015. This is a really big deal and we are thrilled to share this news with the entire membership. Over the years, Tammy’s career has expanded women’s golf through her performance in state and national competitions and she also influenced the game as a official. Congratulations to Tammy for such a well-deserved accolade. On behalf of Laurel Ridge, we couldn’t be prouder!

As the season comes to a close, many members still have a balance left to spend on their annual Food & Beverage Minimum. No worries though, there are still many opportunities to come enjoy lunch, brunch or dinner and dine with us! And remember, To Go orders and catering will also count toward your minimum; however, alcoholic beverages do not per NC law. Please keep in mind that December will be very busy with outside events and parties, so it may be wise not to wait until late. So don’t hesitate!

Erin Owens would like to remind members that she plans to continue her Pilates classes into the winter months, as long as there is sufficient participation. Golfers and tennis/pickleball players may be especially interested in Erin’s 11 am class on Fridays, Conditioning for Golf & Racquet Sports. Candra Smith is offering Yoga on Mondays at 10 am. For a complete schedule of classes, click here.

Work has already begun on the long list of proposed winter golf course projects to be tackled in the off season. Hole #10 has already been completed and now crews have moved on to holes #11 & #12. For complete details on the planned improvements, follow this link.

All members are invited to join the Friends of Reach for their Holiday Gala to benefit Reach of Haywood County. The event will be held at LRCC on Saturday, December 19 with fine dining and dancing from 6-10 pm. Black tie is optional. Please bring an unwrapped gift for the shelter children. Cost is $100 per person; RSVP by December 11 at 456-7898
