Fall/Winter Fitness Classes For Members at Laurel Ridge Country Club

LRCC is pleased to offer a variety of fitness classes for member participation.

CORE/POSTURE/BALANCE DEVELOPMENT:  Mike Simonson will teach his beneficial class at LRCC on Tuesdays at 10 am.  Mike is a personal fitness trainer and can help you achieve results by addressing your individual needs.  He will instruct members as he teaches his students at the Fitness Connection to use good form and body mechanics for the most benefit.  He will share his weight and resistance training skills and techniques that he has used for many years.

PILATES MAT:   Erin Owen already has a great following at Laurel Ridge.  She teaches how to improve flexibility and balance in this well-rounded, challenging and invigorating class on Mondays at 5:45 pm.  Erin is owner of Waynesville Pilates.

BASIC/INTERMEDIATE PILATES:  Erin Owen prioritizes safety so this class is appropriate for low bone density.  The class is offered Friday mornings at 10:30 am and has a deliberate pace, similar to the other mat classes she teaches.

TRX:  Eileen Corbin, also from the Fitness Connection, will continue her weekly class on Wednesday mornings at 9 am.  TRX is a new and different approach to fitness for men and women, also known as Suspension Training, that is safe regardless of age, gender or fitness level.  Space is limited to 4 participants per class.  Please call Eileen to pre-register, 828-421-8566.

Tennis News 5/2/17

It’s the beginning of May, the tennis courts are open and those of you who are not already here will be heading for NC and Laurel Ridge soon.  The dogwoods are blooming and, with ample rain, everything is green.  All this rain is great for the golf course, but not as good for the tennis courts.  With the rain and cooler temperatures, the courts become a bit soft and bounce low and irregular for a while.  So here is my first strategy tip: figure out where the low spots are and aim for them. We are rolling the courts daily and with a bit of dry, warmer weather they will firm up. If you see you are digging up the courts, please go back and smooth out the spot that you dug up.  And we ask that you don’t play in waffle bottom running shoes as they really dig up the courts.

I would like to remind you of LRCC’s court rules regarding brushing and lining the courts after play.  This practice will make the courts better and are a way to “pay it forward for the next person who plays on your court”.   It is also a good cool down and takes about 3-5 minutes with a joint effort. If the metal broom is too heavy, use the drag mat (mat attached to wood board).   I thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Court Reservation sheets are in the Sports Cabana.  After May 15, you will be able to call the office in advance to reserve a court.   Two courts will be reserved for Men’s drop in on MWF and two on TTH for the women starting May 15.     I will be available for lessons starting the week of the 15th on MWTH (note switched to TH instead of F as women play on TTH).  We will have our first Saturday mixer and free clinic on May 13!   Participation in this first clinic will be unlimited; but thereafter, Saturday clinics will be limited to the first ten that sign up each week.

On Memorial Day we will have a summer-opening EXHIBITION & MIXER at 1 pm.   More detail will come on this later.

PLEASE NOTE:  If you need tennis balls when the tennis shop is closed, the golf pro shop has four-ball cans for sale, which are great for doubles.I have had some good feedback from many of you and always welcome your input.   My goal is increased play, more players and, in turn, more fun on the courts.  Headed to my 50th High School Reunion this week. You can contact me either by phone or email. If by phone, I would appreciate calls between the hours of 8 am and 4 pm.

Good hitting,
Larry Turville

2017 Men’s Member/Guest Invitation

SPECIAL INVITATION

2017 Men’s Member-Guest Tournament

Golfing members of Laurel Ridge Country Club are cordially invited to participate in this year’s annual MEN’S MEMBER/GUEST TOURNAMENT on July 20-22, 2017.  The format for the event will be “Better Ball of Partners” Match Play.  With continued golf course improvements, the course will be in excellent condition, a perfect time to invite guests and enjoy a great weekend at your club.

In addition to 45 holes of golf competition, there’s much more planned!   You and your spouse and guests can enjoy golf games preceding dinner on Friday, including the Island Green with cash prizes for winners, Flop Wall and Putting Contest.  These “Big Break” style golf games will test your skills and undoubtedly entertain golfers and spectators alike.  Following dinner, live music from the Stone Crazy Band will feature a vast repertoire of your favorites from classic country to modern rock n’ roll.

For the ladies, we are planning two days of activities as well!  Our goal is to provide all participants with an exciting and memorable experience.

Registration for this tournament will begin on May 1, 2017 and entries are limited to the first 36 teams.   The deadline to enter is July 1, 2017; however, entry may close prior to this date based on the number of entries received.  You are encouraged to fully complete and return your entry as soon as possible to reserve your space.

Please join us for three incredible days of golf, food and fellowship.  We are looking forward to your participation.

Kind Regards,

Duane Page, PGA Professional & Director of Golf
